Hot Stone Massage is a style of massage therapy known as geo-thermo-hydro-therapy. Basalt or black volcanic rocks are usually used. These rocks absorb and retain heat very well.
Stones of various shapes and sizes are placed on specific sites of the client’s body to promote relaxation. In some variations of stone therapy a therapist will use the hot stones as a pre treatment to easily perform deep tissue manipulations.
Stones may be cooled for specific parts and are sometimes used alternately with hot stones. Massage oils are usually incorporated into the massage treatment.
The true gift of living in the moment is realizing that you can’t change or control what’s going to happen tomorrow…

What Happens During a Hot Stone Massage?
The therapist washes the stones before the session and heats them between 100 – 130 degrees F in water.
The client may be asked to lie on covered hot stones, and chakra stones can be placed on the front of the body.
The therapist applies oil and uses special massage strokes holding the hot stones. As the stones cool, the therapist exchanges them for warmer ones.
The therapist may leave heated stones in the palms of the hand, or even between the toes to improve the flow of energy in your body.
Cold stones may be used for inflammations or on injured muscles.
How long does a session last?
Most sessions are one hour long, but most therapists will schedule you in for an hour and a half. Aromatherapy hot stone massage sessions require more preparations such as muscle energy testing, balancing energy and mixing of the pure essential oils.
